To celebrate the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and recognising the Cultural Olympiad that runs up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, there are many cultural activities planned to take place throughout the City of York.

The celebrations start in February to mark the Chinese New Year and events are happening at the National Railway Museum, the Castle Museum, the National Centre for Early Music, Fairfax House, the University of York organised by the York Chinese Students and Scholars Association and York St John University. These will include Chinese musical recitals, a Chinese exhibition showing the end of steam, Chinoiserie decoration tours, illustrated talks about tea, Chinese plate decorating and fan making workshops.

To mark these important events and activities, Yorkshire Forward has kindly supported the production of a ‘China in York’ dual language leaflet, which highlights what is happening and where to go next to get more information. This leaflet can be picked up from York Visitor Information Centres in Exhibition Square and at the Railway Station or you can contact them on 01904 550099 or visit www.visityork.org
